Dove Cottage - Access Statement


Our self catering cottage is set in the centre of Sherburn Village which is 3 miles from the centre of Durham City. The cottage is situated at the rear of Weardale House and has been converted from what were the original stables. The nearest bus stop is 150 meters from the cottage and regular buses run to Durham City, 3 miles away.
The nearest train station is 5 miles away. There are accessible taxis at the station


There is off street parking to the front of Weardale House
The street is mainly flat but slopes away slightly passed Weardale House


The front entrance is via the side of Weardale House to a rear courtyard and is level.
The door is 80cm wide and the keyhole locks are 100 & 110cm high. There is a step up into the cottage of 15cm.
Access to the cottage is lit by on demand outside lighting

Separate kitchen off lounge with a small step up of 5cm
Open plan staircase in lounge leading to first floor bathroom and medium sized double bedroom.


Tastefully furnished including 2 sofas and easy chair TV DVD & Radio.
Small dining table included 75cm high with 2 chairs without arms.
Lounge carpeted with short pile carpet
One 3 seater sofa, one 2 seater sofa and one easy chair are provided which are all armed.
Furniture is moveable and there is adequate free space.


There is no separate laundry but there is a standard size washer/dryer which is front loaded provided in the kitchen.


Small kitchen tastefully and fully fitted with all modern appliances.
Work top height is 90cm
Oven door drop down height and lowest shelf is 33cm
Sink height is 90cm
Hob height is 93cm
Highest shelf height in fridge and separate freezer is 65cm
Microwave is fixed at eye level and is 150cm high
Evenly lit kitchen with a mixture of spotlights and striplight
Flooring is laminate.
Good contrast between floor cupboards and other surfaces.
Backdoor in the kitchen leads to courtyard with small 10cm step.


Open plan stairs in lounge with a step up of 15cm leading to first floor bathroom and double bedroom


Door width is 70cm
Shower cubicle with step up of 10 cm
Floor is tiled
No bath
Toilet seat height is 45cm
White suite with good colour contrast between floors and walls


Door width is 80cm
Double bed provided with height from floor to top of mattress being 60cm
Built in wardrobe and selection of separate drawers
Largest drawer height is 95cm
Bedroom carpeted with short pile carpet


Full use of courtyard and extensive garden area which are flat and provided with a full range of garden furniture including lounges and a barbeque
